This is a letter of protest to Mr Javier Moreno of Euro S.A in Peru who have just dismissed ten Union leaders (8 of them Women) without notice in what is widely believed to be retaliation against them for forming a Union less than three weeks before.
Dear Mr Javier Moreno,
We are writing to to voice our anger at Euro S.A’s treatment of Workers, which shows a complete disregard for peoples rights to freedom of association and expression.
The agricultural export industry employs some 300,000 people of which more than 70% are Women, who have nothing to show for their hard graft thanks to the greed of the capitalist business class and their sidekick the government, who stoke up the anger of the Working Classes by introducing draconian special laws into the agriculture sector which enables employees to pay lower wages, give fewer benefits and protections than those provided to other industries.
The Workers at Euro S.A have formed a Union to organise for their rights collectively, an act which is recognised under Peru’s labour laws but which is now under attack from the bosses at Euro S.A due to their dismissal of ten Union leaders in a clear case of retaliation.
We the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) call on you to re-instate these Workers at once without any fear of reprisals to them or their families and call on the government of Peru to change any laws that allow employers such as yourselves to gain bigger profits through the exploitation of Workers.
We stand in Solidarity with the Workers, Union leaders and the Confederacion General de Trabajadores del Peru (CGTP) and look forward to the day of Workers self rule without any bosses.
